University of Rostock and HIE-RO (Germany)
The University of Rostock is lead partner of BEPART, working strongly together with the Hanseatic Institute for Entrepreneurship & Regional Development (HIE-RO).
With its long tradition (founded 1419) Rostock’s university embraces the chances of innovation and international co-operation as the leading international research university of the state. Rostock is the largest city and growth-pole of Germany’s northern state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The closer region around the university (city and county of Rostock) shows a dynamic and innovative development: With more than 20,000 mostly medium-sized businesses and a growing field of science and research, an important part of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s economic and creative power is concentrated here. Regional entrepreneurial and the university activities are closely interconnected.
The University of Rostock leads the state's university network ‘Gruenderflair’ within the federal program "EXIST - University-based start-ups". A recent study revealed that among 72 German universities tested the University of Rostock had the best “ Stimulating and Promoting Programs” and „Networks”.
These initiatives towards leadership in entrepreneurship promotion and education were started during the 1990s by the "Hanseatic Institute for Entrepreneurship and Regional Development/ HIE-RO" at the University of Rostock. Since the launch of the university’s entrepreneurship training program ROXI in 1997 the institute and chair strengthened research and development for effective training and learning for entrepreneurship. Publications, conferences or teaching material stimulated the national and international discussions for the organizational and pedagogical planning, performance and evaluation of such entrepreneurship training programs. BEPART is an important chance for the University and the Hanseatic Institute to continue this work within a committed international network.
